As women age, they experience changes to the female anatomy that are largely due to decreasing levels of estrogen. Women who have experienced childbirth or menopause may notice a difference in their vaginal health, including dryness, laxity, painful intercourse, frequent vaginal infections and urinary incontinence. Some of these symptoms are treatable with hormone replacement therapies. However, not all women are able to take hormones or may not have experienced a significant improvement in their symptoms with hormonal treatment. As many of our patients are breast cancer survivors with a history of hormone sensitive cancer, FemTouch™ can provide a hormone free treatment that aims to improve their vaginal health (*). The FemTouch™ is an outpatient, minimally invasive, non-surgical, non-hormonal, laser treatment for treating and improving vaginal health for women of all ages (*).

How Does FemTouch™ Vaginal Rejuvenation Work?

The FemTouch™ laser uses a fractional CO2 laser beam that gently ablates and coagulates the vaginal wall which promotes collagen production and remodeling of the vaginal mucosa (*). This helps to thicken the vaginal wall and increase vaginal secretions, helping to alleviate symptoms related to vaginal dryness caused by atrophy (*). A sterilized lubricated applicator is inserted into the vagina and the FemTouch™ delivers low continuous wave CO2 energy levels in a 360 degree fractional pattern along the vaginal walls to ensure the entire area is treated. Patients may experience a minor sensation of heat or vibration and rarely causes any significant discomfort.  For patients that have stress urinary incontinence additional pulses may be used along the urethra to help strength the tissue to further help alleviate the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence such as urinary frequency and incontinence of urine with coughing, laughing or sneezing (*).
